There is only one way to thwart this from happening and that is to create a style guide. Not only will a style guide aid you direct the reproduction of your logo – it will also help you sustain your brand recognition – which many argue is one of the strongest selling tools.

Step 1 : Outline the audience for your Style Guide. Is this for staff to put to work in-house or is this for suppliers and contractors to refer to?

Projectors: LCD Verses DLP (The downfall of DLP technology)

The typical question customers ask when purchasing a new projector for the home, office, or classroom is: do I get an LCD projector or a DLP projector? LCD, an acronym for ‘liquid crystal device’ and DLP, short for ‘digital light processing’ are the two most common projector imaging technologies. With so many company brands and models available, it can be challenging for customers to make a choice between those technologies. Ultimately LCD projectors have far better image quality and colour accuracy. The article below explains why DLP projectors struggle with projecting a similar rate of image quality.

It’s like a set of blinds in your house for your bedroom window. By pulling a rod you can have the shutters open or closed, depending on if you want to let light in or not. Such is exactly how an LCD projector behaves. Each pixel functions like an individual shutter on a set of blinds to either send light through or to block it. DLP on the other hand is made up of millions of microscopic mirrors or ‘pixel elements’ as the experts like to call them. Each pixel element works to either reflect light or block it.

How the light source is processed from when the projector switches on to when the content reaches your screen is ultimately significant for image quality, brightness and colour accuracy. LCD projectors process white light from the lamp by cutting it into red, blue and green components, by three mirrors which send the coloured light to 3 individual LCD panels. The 3 LCD panels create the elements of the image by shining each pixel on and off. The pixels are then combined in a glass prism to create the projector image. A point to remember about LCD projectors is that all three colours are projected onto your wall at once. The way a DLP projector runs is totally different and even the produced image appears is not the same. With DLP, white light from the lamp is sent through a rotating colour wheel with transparent red, blue and green segments, at speeds up to 11,000 rpm/s. This way of creating an image creates a sequence of red, blue and green light. The millions of micro mirrors as described above reflect the coloured light on the pixels to create the image elements. The elements of the image are cast in sequence on the screen, one colour at a time. The viewer’s vision will then combine each coloured element of the image into the full image. From LCD projectors, all colours are available all the time to create high brightness and superb colour accuracy. In DLP, only one colour is available at any given time, and so resulting in lower colour brightness and accuracy. Some developers have added a white segment in the colour wheel to improve all over brightness, but this also lessens colour accuracy.

I see in forums all the time that DLP gives a higher contrast ratio and ergo must be superior. For those who do not know, the contrast ratio is a measure of a display system defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest white to that of the darkest black that the technology is capable of producing. DLP projectors do possess high contrast specifications when compared to most LCD projectors. At one glance, this seems to be a benefit, however, in real life, the true black level is determined by the ambient light in the room when the projector is used. Do not be fooled by contrast specifications on websites and in brochures.

When the content you are trying to bring to life needs moving images, DLP projection technology can also create image marks, or ‘artifacts’. The most common artifact that a DLP projector forms with moving images is colour break up. Colour break up is incontrovertible in DLP systems because moving images keep changing between the time red, blue and green colours are shone. LCD projectors do not have this downside because the colours are processed at once. DLP builders have formed 3DLP solutions using 3 chips to resolve the colour break up artifacts, but the expense of these projectors make them impractical for many businesses and consumers.

Another point of difference between LCD and DLP is how they make up for the refractive qualities of light. Remember back to high school science, and remember when they taught you how various colours of light refract differing amounts when shone through the same lens. The problem with DLP projectors is that they take the one same panel for the same lens to project Red, Blue and Green. All 3 colours are obviously different and refract light in a different way. Usually with a DLP projector, a spill of yellow colour will appear above and an extra blue will come up below an image of something as simple as a lone black line. In manufacturing LCD projectors can be adjusted to minimize these effects on the projected image, as each colour is directed on a separate LCD panels.

The isolated veritable plus (excluding price) with taking a DLP projector is its smaller size and weight. However, this is only relevant with regard to portability and has to be traded off against the image plusses of LCD projectors. If the result of the picture quality is crucial to you, then the answer is a no-brainer. Go with an LCD projector! LCD projectors will constantly show bright, colourful images with fewer image mistakes. Yachting and Yacht Clubs

As the Dutch found dominance in sea power during the 17th century, the initial yacht was a pleasure craft used first by royalty and secondly by the burghers for the canals and then in the protected and unprotected waters of the Low Countries. Racing was incidental, arising as private games. English yachting originated with King Charles II of England during his exile in the Low Countries. On his reaffirmation to the English royalty in 1660, the city of Amsterdam sent him a 20-metre (66-foot) pleasure boat with a beam (maximum width) of 5.6 m (18 feet), which he then named Mary. Charles and his brother James, the duke of York (James II, sovereign 1685–88), made other yachts and in 1662 raced two of them from the Thames, from Greenwich, to Gravesend, and returning, on a £100 punt. Yachting rose as popular for the affluent and nobility, but after that point the fashion did not last.

The first yacht group in the British Isles, the Water Club, was started in about 1720 at Cork, Ire., as a cruising and unofficial coast guard association, and had great naval panoply and gravity. The closest thing to racing boats was the “chase,” in which the “fleet” pursued a fictional enemy. The club persisted, mostly as a social club, until 1765, and in 1828, when joining with other clubs, it became known as the Cork Yacht Club (later the Royal Cork Yacht Club).

Yacht racing was seen in some organized method on the Thames about the mid-18th century. The duke of Cumberland founded the Cumberland Fleet for Thames racing in 1775. When George IV rose to sovereignty in 1820, it was then known as the Fleet to His Majesty’s Coronation Sailing Society. The Thames Yacht Club seceded following a racing dispute, to become the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1830. The first English yacht club had been formed at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1815, and royal patronage made the Solent – the strait between the mainland and the Isle of Wight – the perpetual site of British yacht racing. The society at Cowes became the Royal Yachting Club, likewise at the accession of George IV. Each member was required to have boats of at least 20 tons (20,321 kg). Sailing tests for great bids were held, and the society life was lovely. Ultimately Royal Yachting Club boats grew in size to bigger than 350 tons.

In North America, yachting was first accomplished with the Dutch in New York in the 17th century and went on when the English held power. Sailing was for the most part for fun and rose to its epitome in George Crowinshield’s Cleopatra’s Barge (1815), which cruised on the Mediterranean Sea and set a minimum of luxury and elegance for the later yachts in that area from the late 19th century. The first enduring American yacht organisation, the Detroit Boat Club, was formed in 1839. In 1844, John C. Stevens instigated the New York Yacht Club while on board his schooner Gimcrack.

Hence, a rating rule was created, which resulted in the International Rule, adopted in 1906 and revised in 1919. In modern times, one of the most rapidly flourishing areas in sailing is that of one-design class boats. All boats in a one-design class are built to single dimensions in length, beam, sail area, and other aspects (for an example of a two-person sailboat, see illustration). Racing those boats can be held on an even par with no handicapping necessary. A great example is the uniform International America’s Cup Class adopted for racers in the 1992 America’s Cup race.

For the time that yachting was done primarily for the royal and the wealthy, expense was no issue, and the size of boats grew, in both length and weight. The promotion and desire of smaller boats happened in the second half of the 19th century in the sailing of the Englishmen R.T. McMullen, a stockbroker, and E.F. Knight, a barrister and journalist. A trip around the world (1895–98) sailed single-handedly by the naturalized American captain Joshua Slocum in the 11.3-metre Spray proved the hardiness of small boats. Later in the 20th century, notably after World War II, smaller racing and pleasure boats became commonplace, down to the dinghy, a favourite training boat, of 3.7 m. In the late 20th century, craft of less than 3 m were setting sail single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.

Kinds of power yachts
Following the decade 1840–50, during which steam began to emulate sail power in commercial vessels, the steam engine, and later the internal-combustion engine, were favoured increasingly in leisure craft. Sizeable power yachts were progressed to a high degree, and long-distance travel turned into a favourite pastime of the affluent. The early power yachts were paddle-wheel boats; those then made way to boats powered by the wholly submerged screw or propeller type of propulsion. Like naval and merchant craft, auxiliaries with both sail and power were the yacht standard for many years. By the second half of the 20th century, several yachts were still auxiliaries, but the larger part were only power yachts with gasoline or diesel engines.

In the last decade of the 19th century there was a boom in the manufacture of more sizeable steam yachts. Conspicuous of these was the Mayflower (1897) of 2,690 tons, containing triple-expansion engines, twin screws, and a compartmented iron hull, and was sailed by a crew of over 150. The Mayflower, bought by the United States Navy in 1898, was the official yacht of the president of the United States until 1929 and gave active service in World War II.

As more sizeable and more reliable internal-combustion engines were developed, many big boats were using them for power. The development of the diesel engine, employing heavy oil for fuel, advanced during World War I. During the decade following that, large power-yacht building blossomed, reaching a climax in the Orion (1930) at 3,097 tons. During that time the largest auxiliary yacht built was the four-masted, steel, barque-rigged Sea Cloud (1931) of 2,323 tons.

The building of large power boats lessened in 1932, and the style after that was toward smaller, less costly yachts. From World War II, lots of small naval vessels were sold to private owners for conversion to yachts. At the late 20th century, yachting is a globally loved sport enjoyed by thousands of yachtsmen individually manning and keeping their own small recreational craft. The number of yachts and yachtsmen is increasing steadily, not only in the traditional places on the sea but also on inland waterways and lakes.

Proportional, Progressive, and Regressive taxes

Taxes can be distinguished by the effect they have on the allocation of income and wealth. A proportional tax is the kind of tax that impinges the same relative requirement on all the taxpayers—i.e., in the case where tax liability and income increase in the same scale. A progressive tax is characterized by a greater than proportional rise in the tax burden relative to the increase in income, and a regressive tax is characterizable by a less than proportional increase in the related liability. Hence, progressive taxes are thought of as reducing the lack of equality in income distribution, while regressive taxes are believed to cause an increase in these inequalities.

The taxes that are generally believed to be progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are declarably progressive, however, can become less so in the upper-income categories—especially if a taxpayer is allowed to lessen his tax base by claiming deductions or by removing some income parts from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates if applied to lower-income groups will also be more progressive if such personal exemptions are made.

Income measured over the period of a year might not absolutely provide the best measure of taxpaying requirement. For example, transitory increases in income can be saved, and within temporary declines in income a taxpayer could opt to provide for consumption by decreasing savings. Therefore, if taxation is compared alongside “permanent income,” it should be less regressive (or more progressive) than when it is made comparable with annual income.

Sales taxes and excises (save luxuries) are usually regressive, because the dissemination of one’s income consumed or spent for specific goods declines as the rate of personal income is raised. Poll taxes (also called head taxes), calculated as a set amount per capita, clearly are regressive.

It is not simple to determine corporate income taxes and taxes on business as progressive, regressive, or proportionate, due to the uncertainty around the ability of businesses to shift their tax expenses (see below Shifting and incidence). This difficulty of determining who bears the tax burden is dependant for the most part on whether a national or a subnational (that is, provincial or state) tax is being decided.

In considering the economic purposes of taxation, it is important to distinguish between varied ideas of tax rates. The statutory rates include those dictated in law; usually these are marginal rates, but sometimes they are median rates. Marginal income tax rates denote the fraction of incremental income that is demanded by taxation when income rises by one dollar. Thus, if tax burden grows by 45 cents when income rises by one dollar, the marginal tax rate is 45 percent. Income tax statutes usually contain graduated marginal rates—i.e., rates that increase as income grows. Heavy analysis of marginal tax rates should review provisions apart from the formal statutory rate structure. If, for example, a particular tax credit (reduction in tax) lessens by 20 cents for each one-dollar growth in income, the marginal rate is 20 percentage points greater than nominated within the statutory rates. Since marginal rates signify how after-tax income is changed in response to changes in before-tax income, they are the relevant ones for assessing incentive effects of taxation. It is even more complicated to realise the marginal effective tax rate applicable to income from business and capital, since it may be dependant on factors including the structure of depreciation allowances, the deductibility of interest, and the provisions for inflation adjustment. A basic economic theorem grants that the marginal effective tax rate in income from capital is zero under a consumption-based tax.

Average income tax rates signify the part of total income that is demanded in taxation. The pattern of average rates is the one that is important for judging the distributional equity of taxation. Under a progressive income tax the average income tax rate increases with income. Average income tax rates generally grow with income, both because personal allowances are provided for the taxpayer and dependents and due to that marginal tax rates are graduated; conversely, preferential treatment of income received mostly by high-income households might dampen these effects, producing regressivity, as indicated by average tax rates that lessen as income rises.
